*WHAT IS A GATEWAY SETUP? DO I NEED IT?

The Power BI Gateway is installed on a local server and is what allows you to collaborate on reports with your team and view them in mobile apps. Without it, you are limited to viewing reports files in Power BI Desktop in a Windows environment.

What are the requirements for the Power BI On-Premise Gateway?

  • A local always-on machine running Windows and latest .NET 
  • A 365 account to remain logged into the gateway service
  • Power BI Pro license applied to the 365 account (as well as any other user accounts that are collaborating on reports)

Do I need Power BI Pro licensing?

In order to get the full benefit of the Power BI service, yes. You can fully use Power BI Desktop with a basic Office 365 E3 plan and you can publish your reports to your own workspace. However, to collaborate on reports or to access them remotely via the on-premise gateway, you need a Power BI Pro license.

How much does Power BI Pro cost?

If you are a Microsoft Partner, you likely already have a set of licenses you can apply to your users at no additional cost. Power BI Pro is also included with Office 365 E5. If neither of these apply, you can add it on per-user for $10/month for US Office 365 customers. 

How much does ConnectWise SQL access Cost?

ConnectWise changes pricing packages from time to time so the best source for this is your account manager (accountmanager@connectwise.com). 

SQL access is included by request with ConnectWise Premium. Otherwise, expect to pay $50-200 per month depending on the number of users.
